Time has named the iPhone Invention of the Year.
It’s not too surprising, but it’s obviously great news.
Time made its decision for 5 reasons:
1. The iPhone is pretty
2. It’s touchy-feely
3. It will make other phones better
4. It’s not a phone, it’s a platform
5. It is but the ghost of iPhones yet to come
Time is absolutely right. And No. 5 is especially tantalizing. Like the very first iPod — if it’s this good, how much better can it possibly get? Stick around. You ain’t seen nothing yet.
The article can be read in its entirety here.
Thanks for calling.

AT&T is offering international plans for the iPhone that could take care of those stories about huge charges while roaming overseas.
According to Bloomberg, AT&T is selling new plans for international surfing and email in 29 countries. Cost is $60 a month for 50MB of data or $25 a month for 20 MB.
The service will work in Canada, Mexico, China and other parts of Asia, and parts of Europe.
So if you are traveling to any of the 29 countries — you can find specifics at www.attwireless.com — get yourself one of these plans and turn off the data roaming on your iPhone to be safe and have at it.
If anyone has any experience with these plans, please make sure you let us know.
Thanks for calling.

The Wall Street Journal reports that announcements about Google’s foray into the mobile phone world will come Monday, when different carriers will announce different plans about working together with the company.
Apparently, T-Mobile is going to be a key player, not only utilizing a Google software platform but also building hardware to Google specifications. Sprint is also reported to be a big player.
There’s been no mention of AT&T, and therefore, no iPhone love, unless something is announced that no one sees coming. I still think there’s room for Google and AT&T and Apple to have one giant lovefest that would really benefit consumers.
So I remain hopeful.
If I hear anything before Monday, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, I’ll update as the news comes out then.
Thanks for calling.
