Apple planning iPhone SDK to be released February

Apple apparently does want third party applications on the iPhone and iPod touch just like every other sane individual on the planet. The company just announced on its Hot News feed, that it is currently at work on an SDK for the iPhone, the apps from which will naturally work on the iPod touch. Apple also claims that it agrees with Nokia’s approach of “digital signatures” for applications, meaning that Apple gets to say who qualifies for entrance onto its hallowed devices as was rumored last week. Jobs stated that he liked Nokia’s Mosh project. This is to go without saying that iPhone’s version is sure likely to be closely controlled by iTunes, and it wouldn’t hurt to say that a small price tag will be attached to run these premium applications.

Orange to sell unlocked iPhones in France

Seems like Apple must follow the rules like everyone else on this one. The French law has forced Apple to release an unlocked iPhone in France. There is a cost to this benefit though. The normal locked Orange-network iPhone will cost €399, and the unlocked pricing stills remains a mystery. More details are expected to be announced sometime before the November 29 launch. Of course, laws forbidding the exclusive bundling of cellphones to carriers are not unique to France. As such, we can expect a domino effect of unlocked iPhones being released in the coming months, as deals are struck throughout Europe and Asia.

iPhone v1.1.1 downgrade released

The
iPhone “Elite” Team has just released a method to downgrade the baseband on iPhones running on v1.1.1. With their help, you can restore your disabled iPhones from Apple’s upgrade back to v1.0.2. Your phone will be reverted to the last working version and your iPhone’s wayward cell radio will be restored. You can install 3rd party applications back on the iPhone and laugh at Apple’s poor attempt of
Webapps. Oh, and did I mention, you can do all of this for the lovely price of free. Goodbye to
iPhoneSimFree.

Webapps directory launched for iPhone
Well, the rumor of apple launching a library of downloadable third party applications to iPhones for a fee is false. They did however launch a Webapps library (www.apple.com/webapps/). The good thing about it is that the service is free. The bad is that it is nothing more than a a pimped out version of Apple’s bookmark list. Basically, it is a neat and nice looking way of listing company-approved apps that should function fine in Safari. Many of these apps are also bundled with Google Ads on the page, taking up more room on the screen. It’s a step down from having native third party applications. You must access the applications through Safari, which can be a pain.
